On June 7th, 2013 in Pierre, SD, there was a Relay For Life event to benefit the American Cancer Society. Like most of you, there is someone in your life, whether it's a friend or family member that has had cancer, so I attended this event out of support for a friend.
The Relay For Life event is a gathering of people who have survived cancer, are currently fighting cancer, had family or friends taken away by cancer, and also care givers and volunteers. Many of these people join teams and do various fund raising activities. There are a variety of events, but one of the main events is a "relay" where team members take turn walking laps around a track for donations. Also, prior to the event occurring teams sell "luminarias", which are white paper bags that people 'buy' as a donation and then teams decorate these. The luminarias are then placed around the track and get lit after dark.
I was pleased to attend this event and take some photographs of some of the people and events that occurred.
