I have always wanted to see a snowy owl in person and of course get some photos of one. This beautiful animals do not stay in South Dakota and only show up when they migrate south for the winter season. Once spring starts to approach, they migrate back north and we don't get to see them again.
My first time seeing one of these was when a friend gave me a tip they saw one east of my town of Pierre, SD in January 2018. I couldn't help myself and had to leave work early to see if I could find it. Luck would be on my side that day as I came across it sitting on an electrical wire about 9 miles outside of town. She stay there for a few minutes, long enough for me to take a few photos of her. I was quite thrilling to see my first snowy owl in person!
