In September of 2004, the State of South Dakota dedicated a memorial to honor the South Dakota Korean War veterans and that even though they fought and served in the 'Forgotten War', they themselves will never be forgotten. The dedication ceremony was held in Pierre, SD near the Capitol Complex at the edge of Capitol Lake. The memorial is the creation of artists Lee Leuning and Sherri Treeby and portrays a soldier in winter gear, fighting frostbite and unshaven with a look of determination for the fight ahead as he gives a Centurion salute to his fallen brothers who are now names upon a wall of honor.
