In September of 2006, the State of South Dakota dedicated a memorial to honor the brave South Dakota Vietnam War veterans and to once and for all welcome them home with open arms. The dedication ceremony was held in Pierre, SD near the Capitol Complex at the edge of Capitol Lake. The memorial is the creation of artists Lee Leuning and Sherri Treeby and depicts a soldier in battle gear with an outstretched hand holding the dog tags of a fallen brother as he looks at the names on the wall of honor.
